Innovations for sustainable tourism development and tourist safety in Kazakhstan

From November 30 to December 2, Yessenov University hosted a 3-day Hackathon on the theme “Innovations for sustainable tourism development and tourist safety in Kazakhstan”, organized by NC Kazakh Tourism JSC and Shazam Media LLP, by order of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of Astana Hub.
 
The main purpose of the Hackathon is to create new ideas and projects for the development of tourism in Kazakhstan, including the Mangystau region.
 
11 teams and a total of 77 participants took part in the Hackathon.  
The main tasks of the projects were related to the development of a digital solution to ensure the safety (communication) of tourists without the Internet in reservoirs and remote mountainous areas, the development of a mobile application that includes interactive maps, information about attractions, safety tips and the ability to call for help.
 
The participants needed to provide a universal superapplication for tourists working offline.
 
As a bonus, the teams were provided with the necessary digital tools and code writing workshops for the project. The participants started working after receiving the assignment. Specialists working in the IT field provided assistance to the participants as mentors for 3 days.
 
On the 2nd day of the Hackathon, the teams were also actively working on the planned work.  
 
Thus, on the 3rd day of the Hackathon, 11 teams defended their projects for this task.
 
3 projects, recognized by the decision of the jury as the strongest, became the winners of the prize money places.
The 1st place (1,500,000 tenge) – the Techies team Yessenov University, the 2nd place (1,000,000 tenge) – the Kubity team of Yessenov University and the 3rd place (500,000 tenge) – the team of Nazarbayev Intellectual School.
