On April 18, as part of his working visit to the Mangystau Region, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited Yessenov University.
During the visit, the President was presented with the university’s key areas of activity, including its infrastructure development, academic programs, and scientific and technological projects. The Head of State was introduced to the work of the FabLab digital laboratory, the 01Edu school, the Huawei ICT Academy, and the Kazakhstan-German Institute for Sustainable Engineering (KINI).
A special presentation was given on Yessenov Technopark—an interdisciplinary platform for the development of engineering and startup projects aimed at enhancing the applied and digital skills of young professionals. University students showcased a delivery robot assembled on-site, operating with SLAM and LiDAR navigation technologies. The work of the Technopark aligns with the priorities of 2025, designated as the Year of Skilled Professions in Kazakhstan.
FabLab, part of the international MIT Fab Lab network, delivers FabAcademy programs with internationally recognized certifications. The laboratory provides training in 3D printing, CNC machining, robotics, electronics, and CAD/CAM design, integrating global standards into the technical education system of Kazakhstan.
The President also explored the operations of 01Edu, the first peer-to-peer digital education platform in Kazakhstan. The project was launched under the guidance of French education innovator Nicolas Sadirac and is focused on developing competencies in artificial intelligence and algorithmic thinking.
As part of the visit, a new Faculty of Artificial Intelligence was officially launched. The faculty will serve as a cornerstone in the implementation of Kazakhstan’s AI-Sana national initiative, training specialists for the realities of the digital transformation.
The Huawei ICT Academy, established at Yessenov University in 2022, was also presented to the President. The academy offers cutting-edge training in 5G networks, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and AI technologies. A highlight of this initiative is Oralbay Utebay, a university graduate who became a global champion of the Huawei ICT competition and currently works as an IT engineer at Huawei Technologies Kazakhstan.
KINI, an official branch of TU Berlin, operates at Yessenov University, delivering programs in sustainable engineering, digital infrastructure, logistics, and green economy. As part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Socio-Economic Development of the Mangystau Region, 20 billion tenge have been allocated for the construction of a new academic facility for KINI by 2026.
The President gave a high assessment of the university’s infrastructure, startup ecosystem, and academic potential, emphasizing the importance of such platforms in the context of the digital economy.
“Creating such environments opens up vast opportunities for the technical and creative development of youth, stimulates the adoption of advanced technologies, and helps train qualified professionals in high demand in the digital economy,” noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Yessenov University will continue its strategic efforts in training highly qualified engineering and IT professionals, making a substantial contribution to the development of the nation’s intellectual capacity.
