Invitation to the Reader of the Year contest!

Dear Students!

We invite you to participate in the “Reader of the Year” contest, held as part of the “100 Books Every Yessenov University Student Should Read” project!

Goals and Objectives: To promote the university-wide “100 Books” project, highlight the importance of reading, engage students in reading, preserve and develop traditional reading, enhance the library’s prestige, and identify outstanding readers among students. To form a category of readers with refined aesthetic tastes, sharp minds, imaginative creativity, and diverse knowledge.

Event Stages:

Stage I: Filling out the questionnaire and writing an essay. The questionnaire can be completed electronically via the link library@yu.edu.kz or in traditional paper form at the reading room.

Writing an Essay. This stage will evaluate the student’s creative and literary abilities. Participants should write an essay based on their impressions of the works included in the “100 Books” list. Essays should be submitted to library@yu.edu.kz by April 21, 2025, or handed over to library staff.

Stage II: Interview:

  1. Reading excerpts from poetry and prose included in the “100 Books” list (regulation: 3 minutes).
  2. Discussion of the works from the “100 Books” list.

Stage III: Readers’ Conference (open discussion forum).

The results will be announced on April 25, 2025, at 16:00 in the Yessenov University atrium.

Outstanding readers will be awarded in the following categories: “Reader of the Year,” “Best Reader of Kazakh Classics,” “Best Reader of Russian Classics,” “Outstanding Reader of Foreign Literature,” “Master of Poetry,” “Master of Artistic Speech,” “Best Essay,” and “Library’s Regular Reader.”
