Research work on the project

Research work has begun on the grant financing project: AP19679081 " Modification of petroleum bitumen by industrial rubber waste".

The project is designed to research and develop a technology for modifying the oil of road bitumen with rubber waste for waste processing and improving the physico-chemical characteristics of road bitumen. The members of the research group, including the graduate student of the educational program “Chemical technology of organic substances’ Koichukulova Aktilek, conduct experiments on modifying bitumen with rubber crumbs to determine the optimal parameters.

According to the grant financing project: AP19679081 “Modification of petroleum bitumen by industrial rubber waste”, meetings were held with foreign scientists: Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Yildiz Technical University Keyf Seifulla and a leading researcher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Sciences of Riga Technical University (RTU) Viktor Haritonov. The directions of work and tasks of the project, parameters and characteristics of the processes necessary for conducting experiments on modifying bitumen with rubber chips were discussed.

After meetings with foreign scientists on the grant financing project: AP19679081 ” Modification of petroleum bitumen by industrial rubber waste”, the members of the research group discussed the updated tasks of the project. The parameters and characteristics of the processes necessary for conducting experiments on modifying bitumen with rubber crumbs were also determined, taking into account the suggestions and comments of foreign scientists. The project work has received a powerful new incentive for further research.

Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Petrochemical Engineering A. Sh. Akkenzheeva in December 2023 was sent to the Institute of Gorenje Problems in Almaty in order to study the structure of samples of rubber-bitumen binders in accordance with the calendar plan of the project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste” for 2023. Microimages of modified bitumen samples were taken and a discussion was held on the results of the structure study with a senior researcher at the Institute of Gorenje Problems, a member of the research group Imanbaev E.

According to the project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, new equipment has been purchased – a vertical planetary ball mill MF–BM0.4A, which will be used to carry out the devulcanization process. The use of this device will allow solving the following project task: determining the effect of devulcanized rubber on the physico-chemical properties of bitumen; identifying the optimal amount of devulcanized rubber to be added.

According to the project ” Modification of petroleum bitumen by industrial rubber waste “, a new device was purchased – a softening temperature meter for petroleum bitumen using the ring and ball method IKSH-MG4. This device will automate and speed up the process of determining the softening temperature of oil bitumen. This will allow us to solve all the main tasks of determining the optimal amount of rubber chips and the size of its particles, temperature and time of the process of obtaining modified bitumen

According to the grant financing project: AP19679081 “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, as part of a business trip on May 1-3, 2024 in Almaty, documents for obtaining a visa to Latvia were submitted for a trip to Riga Technical University in June 2024. The purpose of the business trip to Riga is to share research experience, to get acquainted with new research methods, practical results of research conducted by project members in Latvia. In addition, in Almaty, the results of the research were discussed with a senior researcher at the Institute of Gorenje Problems, a member of the research group Imanbaev Yerzhan. The technique of devulcanization of rubber crumbs using a planetary ball mill was discussed.

An exhibition of the results of scientific research of grant financing projects was held at the university as part of the month dedicated to Science Day. According to the grant financing project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, samples of bitumen modified with rubber chips, a mixture of rubber chips and SBS modifier were lined. Publications on the topic of the project were also presented, which were published in the journal of the SCOPUS database and journals recommended by the Committee for Control in the Field of Education and Science.

According to the project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, new equipment was purchased – a shear agitator FLC-IV. The shear agitator is designed for a wide range of applications – mixing, emulsification, homogenization, disintegration and dissolution – with efficiency and versatility incomparable with other machines. The shear agitator is equipped with a touch-screen control with a digital tachometer and an ammeter, a programmable timer. The use of this device will allow solving all the main tasks of determining the effect of devulcanized rubber on the physico-chemical properties of bitumen; identifying the optimal amount of added devulcanized rubber.
