The project is designed to research and develop a technology for modifying the oil of road bitumen with rubber waste for waste processing and improving the physico-chemical characteristics of road bitumen. The members of the research group, including the graduate student of the educational program “Chemical technology of organic substances’ Koichukulova Aktilek, conduct experiments on modifying bitumen with rubber crumbs to determine the optimal parameters.
According to the grant financing project: AP19679081 “Modification of petroleum bitumen by industrial rubber waste”, meetings were held with foreign scientists: Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Yildiz Technical University Keyf Seifulla and a leading researcher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering Sciences of Riga Technical University (RTU) Viktor Haritonov. The directions of work and tasks of the project, parameters and characteristics of the processes necessary for conducting experiments on modifying bitumen with rubber chips were discussed.
After meetings with foreign scientists on the grant financing project: AP19679081 ” Modification of petroleum bitumen by industrial rubber waste”, the members of the research group discussed the updated tasks of the project. The parameters and characteristics of the processes necessary for conducting experiments on modifying bitumen with rubber crumbs were also determined, taking into account the suggestions and comments of foreign scientists. The project work has received a powerful new incentive for further research.
Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Petrochemical Engineering A. Sh. Akkenzheeva in December 2023 was sent to the Institute of Gorenje Problems in Almaty in order to study the structure of samples of rubber-bitumen binders in accordance with the calendar plan of the project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste” for 2023. Microimages of modified bitumen samples were taken and a discussion was held on the results of the structure study with a senior researcher at the Institute of Gorenje Problems, a member of the research group Imanbaev E.
According to the project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, new equipment has been purchased – a vertical planetary ball mill MF–BM0.4A, which will be used to carry out the devulcanization process. The use of this device will allow solving the following project task: determining the effect of devulcanized rubber on the physico-chemical properties of bitumen; identifying the optimal amount of devulcanized rubber to be added.
According to the project ” Modification of petroleum bitumen by industrial rubber waste “, a new device was purchased – a softening temperature meter for petroleum bitumen using the ring and ball method IKSH-MG4. This device will automate and speed up the process of determining the softening temperature of oil bitumen. This will allow us to solve all the main tasks of determining the optimal amount of rubber chips and the size of its particles, temperature and time of the process of obtaining modified bitumen
According to the grant financing project: AP19679081 “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, as part of a business trip on May 1-3, 2024 in Almaty, documents for obtaining a visa to Latvia were submitted for a trip to Riga Technical University in June 2024. The purpose of the business trip to Riga is to share research experience, to get acquainted with new research methods, practical results of research conducted by project members in Latvia. In addition, in Almaty, the results of the research were discussed with a senior researcher at the Institute of Gorenje Problems, a member of the research group Imanbaev Yerzhan. The technique of devulcanization of rubber crumbs using a planetary ball mill was discussed.
An exhibition of the results of scientific research of grant financing projects was held at the university as part of the month dedicated to Science Day. According to the grant financing project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, samples of bitumen modified with rubber chips, a mixture of rubber chips and SBS modifier were lined. Publications on the topic of the project were also presented, which were published in the journal of the SCOPUS database and journals recommended by the Committee for Control in the Field of Education and Science.
According to the project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, new equipment was purchased – a shear agitator FLC-IV. The shear agitator is designed for a wide range of applications – mixing, emulsification, homogenization, disintegration and dissolution – with efficiency and versatility incomparable with other machines. The shear agitator is equipped with a touch-screen control with a digital tachometer and an ammeter, a programmable timer. The use of this device will allow solving all the main tasks of determining the effect of devulcanized rubber on the physico-chemical properties of bitumen; identifying the optimal amount of added devulcanized rubber.
From June 21 to July 02, 2024, two employees of the project Akkenzheeva A. sh.and Busurmanova A. Ch. He was on a business trip in Riga at the Riga Technical University .The purpose of the trip is to get acquainted with new research methods, conduct research on the use of new methods and instruments, exchange research experience in order to get acquainted with the practical results of research conducted by Project members in Latvia.In order to get acquainted with the modern laboratory equipment of the Faculty of construction and mechanical engineering, he visited the modern laboratories of the Department of roads and bridges of RTU and the Department of polymer materials technology of the Faculty of materials science and Applied Chemistry of RTU.
From June 21 to July 02, 2024, two project employees Akkenzheeva A. Sh. and Busurmanova A. Ch. were on a business trip to Riga. The Riga Technical University signed a cooperation agreement with the Riga Technical University, discussed issues of cooperation in the framework of joint research projects and student exchange with the director of the Institute of Civil Engineering Sciences of the Faculty Construction and mechanical engineering by Peteris Drukis
According to the calendar plan for 2024, work is underway to modify bitumen with a mechanochemically devulcanized rubber crumb. For this purpose, a shear agitator purchased under the project in 2023 is used, which allows the modification process to be carried out with a mixing speed of 5000-6000 rpm. Work is also underway to determine the freezing point and softening temperature for rubber-bitumen binders obtained using devulcanized rubber chips.
According to the project “Modification of petroleum bitumen with rubber waste”, a set of sieves of different sizes was purchased to conduct a sieve analysis of crushed rubber crumbs. A sieve analysis of a batch of rubber crumbs was carried out and fractions up to 0.5 mm, from 0.5 to 1 mm, above 1 m were isolated for the modification of petroleum bitumen
Research has been conducted using new methods and tools: A fluorescence microscope (FM) Moticam PorS5Lite (Motic Microscopes) was used to scan the target using fluorescence excitation filter D480/30nm to observe distribution properties of targets according to the fluorescence shape.
Differential scanning calorimeter DSC-1 (Mettler Toledo) was used to record heating thermograms from -100oC to 200oC at scanning speed 10oC in air environment. Average sample mass was 10 mg.
Thermogravimetric analyser TGA-1 (Mettler Toledo) was used to record decomposition thermograms from 20oC to 800oC at scanning speed 10oC in air environment. Average sample mass was 10 mg.
From June 21 to July 02, 2024, two project employees Akkenzheeva A. Sh. and Busurmanova A. Ch. were on a business trip to Riga. A discussion was held on the results of research conducted within the framework of a project to modify bitumen with devulcanized rubber chips. A preliminary version of the article has been prepared for submission to the Scopus database journal. Further plans for conducting research within the framework of the bitumen modification project were discussed, and new directions for bitumen modification were considered. Plans to submit new research projects together with professors of the Riga Technical University were discussed.
From June 21 to July 02, 2024, two project employees Akkenzheeva A. Sh. and Busurmanova A. Ch. were on a business trip to Riga. In order to familiarize with the practical results of the research conducted at the Riga Technical University, a road was visited that was filled with crushed rubber crumbs: ordinary and devulcanized. The road is located in the parish of Vilce, Jelgava region. The innovative styling recipe was developed by scientists from the Riga Technical University (RTU) and in laboratory tests showed significant resistance to cracking.
From June 21 to July 02, 2024, two project employees Akkenzheeva A. Sh. and Busurmanova A. Ch. were on a business trip to Riga. In order to familiarize with the best practices in the field of production of devulcanized rubber chips and modification of bitumen with devulcanized rubber chips, the new environmental laboratory of the research center located in Kaunas, Lithuania, was visited, which is engaged in research on the devulcanization of rubbers and the development of new generation rubbers, UAB Polylema is part of the international Rubinntec innovation group.
From November 18 to 21, 2024, according to the grant financing project “Modification of bitumen with rubber waste”, Viktor Kharitov, a member of the project, Professor of Riga Technical University, visited Yesenov University to exchange research experience. Discussions were held on the results of research on the modification of bitumen with devulcanized rubber chips in order to submit a new article to the highly rated journals of the Scopus database; meetings with project members in the organizations of LLP “JV “CASPI BITUMEN“ and LLP “KMG Engineering” KazNIPImunaigas; discussions on the methodology of conducting research for the next year of the project. In addition, during the visit, Professor Viktor Kharitov gave guest lectures for students and undergraduates of educational programs: Chemistry, Chemical Technology of Organic Substances and Industrial Engineering.
