Research work on the project

To study oil pollution of the surface of the Caspian Sea in the area of the ports of Aktau, Kuryk and Ersai, archives of radar data obtained using synthetic aperture radars of the Sentinel-1 satellite constellation belonging to the European Space Agency for the period 2013-2022 were selected.

According to the results of the study, a scientific article was published online in Ecologica Montenegro. Here is the link:

The article presents satellite images of each oil slick, as well as its main characteristics.

Time series archives containing more than 3,700 radar images were analyzed in the STCS system

The characteristics of seasonal and annual variability of the Caspian Sea level have been developed. Time series archives containing more than 3,700 radar images were analyzed in the STCS system. Each image was analyzed to identify dark areas with low radar signal levels that could be identified as oil pollution. According to the schedule, during field expeditions along the coastal zone, full-scale measurements of oil pollution and pollution of seawater with other chemicals were carried out near the ports of Aktau and Kuryk.

In the process of conducting research work, the services of the testing laboratories of Tandem -Eco LLP, accredited in accordance with ST RK ISO/IEC 17025-2007 Certificate of accreditation KZ.T.13.1531, were used to conduct physico-chemical analyses to determine the composition of water.
