On March 31, Yessenov University hosted a large-scale celebration of Nauryz, which this year coincided with Oraza Ait. This meaningful tradition aims to promote the rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people, revive national customs, and pass spiritual values on to the younger generation.
As part of the festive program titled “Nauryz-duman, Nauryz-shattyq!”, an ethno-village was set up on the university grounds. Guests were treated to traditional dishes such as nauryz kozhe, baursaks, and other national delicacies. The air was filled with the sounds of Kazakh kui and folk songs, and interfaculty competitions showcased traditional customs and rituals. Students took part in national games—riding the altybakan swing, testing their strength in sheep-lifting contests, and playing asyk. The celebratory spirit was further enriched by a lively concert program.
The event was graced by aksakals and respected representatives of the Mangystau region, as well as veteran faculty members of the university. Among the honored guests were Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yessenov University Baktybai Ashimbekuly Kasymbekov, the Consuls General of Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan, representatives of Germany’s leading technical university Hochschule Hof, and a delegation from Finland led by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan, Ms. Janna Heiskanen. Their presence added a special significance to this shared celebration.
