On October 7, Yessenov University hosted an important and historic meeting with the delegation of the Yessenov Foundation. The delegation included Maksutbek Shakhmardanuly Yessenov — the son of the prominent Kazakh geologist, scientist, and statesman Shakhmardan Yessenov — as well as Foundation Director Irina Grischenko and renowned sculptors and designers.
During the meeting, Yessenov University and the Shakhmardan Yessenov Foundation signed an agreement to implement a project dedicated to the academician and distinguished scientist Shakhmardan Yessenov. The monument’s unveiling is planned for 2027, marking the 100th anniversary of the scientist’s birth.
Under the agreement, the Foundation will take responsibility for the design, financing, installation of the monument, and landscaping of the surrounding area.
President of Yessenov University Berik Akhmetov emphasized that the monument will serve as a “point of strength” for future generations — a symbol of inspiration and a reminder of a person who devoted his life to science and the development of the nation.
A special moment of the meeting was the presentation of the honorary “Yessenov” badge to Maksutbek Shakhmardanuly Yessenov — the son of the academician and a long-standing member of the University’s Board of Directors — in recognition of his significant contribution to the university’s growth.
The Yessenov memorial complex is planned to be located to the right of the university’s main entrance axis. It will be a public space characterized by a complex composition and an immersive experience for visitors. The monument is expected to become one of the key attractions on the university grounds, where students will enjoy spending their time.
The project involves talented architects and designers — Assel Yeszhanova, Chingiz Batyrbekov, and sculptor Meiram Baymukhanov. Preparatory work is already underway.
