On June 9, Yessenov University hosted an important meeting with the delegation of the Council of the European Union’s Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST).

The delegation, led by COEST Chair Ms. Chiara Jane O’Brien, included representatives from the European External Action Service (EEAS), experts from the European Commission and the EU Council, members of the EU Delegation to Kazakhstan, as well as diplomats and experts from Denmark, Slovenia, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Romania, Spain, Austria, Cyprus, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Croatia, and Portugal.

During the meeting, Yessenov University President Berik Akhmetov presented information on the university’s international projects, initiatives implemented with European partners, and the university’s role as a regional educational hub in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor. Particular attention was given to projects under the Kazakh-German Institute of Sustainable Engineering.

In the course of discussions, delegation members raised issues of climate resilience, environmental engineering, renewable energy sources, and water resource management — key areas of strategic cooperation between the EU and Central Asia.

Yessenov University plays a significant role in these processes by implementing applied research projects that take into account the natural and environmental characteristics of Mangystau, developing energy-efficient and eco-engineering solutions in collaboration with international partners, and equipping students and young researchers with practical skills to strengthen regional human capital.

Following the visit, the COEST delegation highly appreciated the university’s infrastructure and its strategy for developing international cooperation.
