On April 18, as part of Science Week at Yessenov University, an international scientific and practical conference titled “Modern Model of Integration Between Higher Education and the Labor Market in Kazakhstan” was held in memory of Dr. Ashimzhan Suleymenovich Akhmetov, a distinguished professor, doctor of technical sciences, and public figure. The event was organized by the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Petrochemical Engineering.
The conference brought together Professor Akhmetov’s wife — Dina Smailovna Omarova, his relatives, colleagues, students, and mentees.
The event opened with a welcoming speech from Vice President of the University A.A. Seydaliev. During the session, heartfelt tributes and academic reflections were shared by:
— A.Zh. Edilkhanov, Deputy Chair of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
— Dr. S.T. Zakenov, Professor of the Department, Chair of the Aktau City Maslikhat,
— Associate Professors of the Department of Ecology and Geology K.Ä. Kozhakhmet and F.Q. Nurbayeva,
— and Dina Smailovna Omarova, Professor Akhmetov’s wife.
To commemorate the professor’s legacy, student tournaments in chess and togyzkumalak were also held. The winners were congratulated by Vice President Seydaliev, and awards were presented by Dina Smailovna.
The conference continued with three thematic breakout sessions. Guests also visited the lecture room named in honor of Professor Akhmetov, where Dina Smailovna donated computers for academic use.
