President of Yessenov University B.B. Akhmetov Presented His Annual Public Report

On December 5, the President of Yessenov University, B.B. Akhmetov, presented his annual public report.

Since transitioning into a non-profit joint-stock company, Yessenov University has established the practice of presenting an annual report to the public. The results of the university’s activities for the 2024–2025 academic year demonstrate a period of significant transformation and notable achievements. Systematic efforts were made to improve the quality of education, strengthen scientific potential, expand international cooperation, develop infrastructure, and enhance student well-being.

The mission of Yessenov University is to educate, inspire, and advance research for the sustainable development of the Mangystau region. Graduates contribute to the growth of new industries, digital transformation, lifelong learning systems, and the development of tourism in the Caspian region, meeting the region’s demand for highly qualified professionals.

Over the past seven years, student enrollment has increased from 3,167 to over 10,000. More than 400 international students from countries across Africa and Eurasia have contributed to the development of a multicultural campus environment.

The university employs over 390 faculty members, 199 of whom hold academic degrees. This year, more than 30 highly qualified specialists from leading national universities joined the institution, further enhancing academic quality.

The university offers more than 100 educational programs, 79% of which are internationally accredited. This year, the Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence was established, offering new academic pathways in IT, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and automation. Programs in tourism, ecology, energy, construction, oil and gas, business analytics, traditional music, and languages are fully aligned with the strategic needs of the Mangystau region.

The university’s performance indicators have been recognized internationally:

  • QS World University Rankings 2026 – #1201–1400
  • QS Asia – improved by 200 positions in recent years, reaching #451–460
  • National ranking – rose from 18th place in 2018 to 4th place
  • The only university in Kazakhstan to receive ACQUIN institutional accreditation without remarks
  • Graduate employment rate – 92%

Brand and well-being indicators have also shown positive dynamics: the university’s integrated brand index increased from 79.4% to 86.1%, while the student professional happiness index rose from 73.9% to 82.3%. The professional well-being index among faculty reached 83.4%, reflecting a healthy and supportive professional culture.

Scientific activity remains a key priority. A total of 27 research projects with a combined value of 6.1 billion tenge are being implemented, including 13 projects under the “Young Scientist” program. Research funding has grown significantly—from 40 million tenge in 2020 to 2.2 billion tenge—yielding internationally significant results in areas such as Caspian ecology, water desalination, petrochemistry, historical heritage, and educational analytics.

Internationalization indicators continue to grow:

  • 125 international partners
  • 438 students participated in academic mobility programs abroad
  • 36 international professors delivered lectures
  • 9 dual-degree programs
  • 20 researchers completed internships at leading global universities under the “500 Scientists” program

Infrastructure has been significantly upgraded, including:

  • Yessenov Technopark
  • A 1,500-seat stadium
  • A youth park with nearly 5,000 trees

As part of digital transformation, a student-centered ecosystem has been developed. Services such as YU Otinish, the unified access system ID.YU.EDU.KZ, the YU Coins platform, the 01Edu IT School, and YU FabLab (part of the international FabLab network) are shaping a modern digital culture on campus.

These achievements are the result of the collective efforts of faculty, staff, and students. Yessenov University will continue to contribute to the sustainable development of the Mangystau region and the country by providing high-quality education, advancing impactful research, and nurturing responsible citizens.
