I am pleased to share important and encouraging news for our university. On 5 December 2025, the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025 were published, and the results confirmed a significant advance for Yessenov University. In the 2025 edition, the ranking included 1,745 universities from 105 countries, making it one of the world’s largest international benchmarking systems focused specifically on university sustainability.
This year, Yessenov University ranked 333rd globally with a total score of 7,577.5 points. Among universities in Kazakhstan, it placed 3rd out of 30 institutions represented in the ranking. These results reflect a strong upward trajectory and position the university among the country’s leading higher education institutions in the field of sustainable development.
The university also recorded notable category-level results. In the official UI GreenMetric table, Yessenov University received 800 points for Water, 1,300 for Waste, and 1,675 for Education & Research, alongside strong scores in Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, and Transportation. According to the university’s own summary of the results, these indicators placed Yessenov University among the national leaders in several key sustainability dimensions, especially in water stewardship, waste management, and sustainability-oriented education and research.
This achievement is significant not only because of the ranking itself, but because of what the ranking measures. UI GreenMetric evaluates universities through six broad dimensions: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research. Its purpose is to assess how effectively universities embed environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and sustainability culture into campus management, academic life, and institutional strategy.
Seen in this context, Yessenov University’s progress is a clear reflection of sustained institutional work to strengthen environmental infrastructure, improve resource efficiency, promote responsible campus practices, and integrate sustainability into teaching and research. The result shows that the university’s efforts are gaining visibility not only at the national level, but also within a respected international framework for assessing sustainable higher education.
This success is the product of a collective effort across the university community. It reflects the commitment of faculty, staff, students, and leadership to building a greener, more responsible, and future-oriented university ecosystem. Yessenov University will continue to strengthen this trajectory and further develop its role as a regional driver of green transformation, innovation, and sustainable development.
