From October 1 to 3, 2025, Yessenov University hosted the international conference “Aktau Dialogue: Green Hydrogen 2025.” This three-day event was dedicated to strengthening academic, scientific, and expert cooperation between Kazakhstan and Germany. The conference served as an important platform for discussing the global energy transition, the development of green technologies, and the environmental sustainability of the Caspian region.
The program focused on key issues such as the ecology of the Caspian Sea, green hydrogen technologies, and the development of education and research in this field. Participants explored the latest advances in sustainable energy, discussed the potential of green hydrogen as a strategic source of clean energy, and examined opportunities for regional and international cooperation. Special attention was also given to the environmental future of the Caspian Sea, including biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, and the sustainable use of natural resources.
The second day of the Aktau Dialogue platform, held on October 2, was devoted to topics of particular importance for the region. During the forum sessions, scholars and experts presented recent research in the field of sustainable energy and highlighted the potential of green hydrogen from both scientific and practical perspectives. Environmental organizations shared proposals on preserving the ecological balance of the Caspian region, protecting marine ecosystems, and addressing climate-related challenges. A special session with experts from Germany and DKU focused on pathways for developing hydrogen energy, as well as prospects for educational, scientific, and technological cooperation.
The conference brought together leading experts, researchers, and officials from Kazakhstan and Germany. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Sebastian Timmerberg (Hamburg University of Applied Sciences), Prof. Dr. Tobias Plessing (Hof University of Applied Sciences), Manuel Andresh (H2 DIPLO, Astana), Ulrich Kinne, Deputy Ambassador of Germany, and Prof. Dr. Wolrad Rommel, President of DKU. Their contributions offered valuable insights into the development of the green hydrogen economy, international experience in sustainable energy, and new opportunities for scientific and innovation-driven partnership.
As part of the conference, partners of the KINI Institute and students also took part in discussions on academic mobility, dual-degree programs, and internship opportunities in Germany. These exchanges highlighted the importance of international educational cooperation in preparing a new generation of specialists capable of working at the intersection of science, technology, and sustainable development.
Overall, “Aktau Dialogue: Green Hydrogen 2025” became a significant international platform bringing together science, education, environmental priorities, and the future of energy.
